So guys! Great news! I am sick as a dog (again, jeeze I just got over this last week) so you all get to see the comic several hours early so I can go to bed!

Bad news! It’s not totally finished yet! The backgrounds of the last panel and the shadows are not done yet, boy howdy.

Anyway, it’s Colin’s proper introduction! As well as Jim’s mother, who you may remember from a single panel flashback back in issue two of Orientations. Also the Finn Family dog, who you might notice isn’t totally normal either. OH THOSE FINNS amirite? Whatever you’ll meet the rest of the family next week! Excitement!

I finished my comic a few hours early, so to celebrate I’m uploading it a few hours early! Everybody win

Liverpool Avalon History Lesson! The cathedral they are walking by is St. Francis Cathedral, the oldest building in the Avalon. Before the Avalon went into hiding a bunch of human missionaries built the Church in hopes of converting the mythical population to Christianity. Since St. Francis of Assisi gave sermons to the animals, the humans thought that devoting the church to St. Francis would make it more appealing. They also covered the church in icons of the Evangelicals, since they are often portrayed as mythical beasts (Matthew=winged human, Mark=winged Lion, Luke=winged ox, John=eagle). Today it is still a holy building, but instead it’s used as a meeting hall for all of the Avalon’s congregations, regardless of belief. Probably not what the missionaries had in mind, but it works for the L.A. residents.

But yes, I am getting married on September 19th and I am just swamped with crazy wedding stuff! And then afterwards I’m taking a comic honeymoon to take a breather, so I won’t be back until October! Yay! Exciting!

Oh no! It looks like all the weirdness is taking it’s toll on poor Anthony. Fun facts: Blanche is eating a salad sandwich with a side-salad while Anthony got fish and chips minus the fish. Because that’s how he rolls.

BUT READ THIS YA’LL: Between planning my wedding and dealing with the car crash I got into a few weeks back my life has been stupid complicated. So complicated that it’s starting to cut into my Skin Deep time, and that’s why all these pages are in black and white, up late, sketch interludes, etc. SO THIS IS WHAT WE’RE GONNA DO. From now on until my wedding in September I am going to get a page up every two weeks. BUT FRET NOT, as I will put up something every Tuesday, comic or not. There will be sketches and other goodies on the off weeks.

I know this sorta sucks, and I hate doing it, but honestly I have to cut out something in my schedule right now and the only thing I can cut out is comic time. IT HURTS ME TO THE CORE but I hope you guys all understand! It won’t be for long I promise!

Sketch Interlude

Sorry guys, no comic this week, I’m afraid. I spent all last week and last weekend getting my wedding invitations ready to go and I just (mostly) finished them. I did doodle a bunch during my lunch hour at work today, though, so I thought I would post those instead.

It’s mostly a bunch of doodles of Exchanges characters in their human forms, as I thought that might be interesting. Zech, Paul, Jim, Alec, Rupert, Lorne (although he’s looking a smidge off-model tonight), and Jon. There’s also Lorne in his fullform in case anyone was wondering what a Nemean Lion looks like. Nemean lions are heraldic lions, and heraldic lions are, for the most part, maneless. The Nemean lion ya’ll saw wandering the street earlier in the comic was in fact a male Nemean, although that doesn’t really matter much

Also there’s some Michelle and Greg, because some of you guys have said you missed them! Also human Marshall is tucked away up there. Anyway ENJOY. There will be a comic next week I promise!

This isn’t 100% finished, as I got into my very first car accident today. It was a minor fender-bender, but since it was my first one I kinda freaked the hell out, you know how it goes I got this mostly finished (more finished than the last page AMIRITE KIDS?) but know that it’s not totally complete and I am aware of this.

For the comic page itself: Jim (and Paul) and Rupert are first cousins. “Uncle Antoine” is Rupert’s father, if that was not apparent. Jim likes to take the piss out on Rupert constantly. Awww, Rupert. Next week is a scene change!

Between going home for my mother’s birthday, working on wedding stuff, and then suddenly getting sick today, I did not manage to finish the comic. But you still get comic! That is the point.

Anyway this page has stuff! Richard Serra makes stuff like this, so Lorne probably needs to help out his girlfriend or else she will hurt herself moving around steel slabs. What a nice fella, amirite?

Hey! A finished comic page! I KNOW RIGHT? AMAZING. Sorry it’s a little late, I was having internet issues that wouldn’t let me upload the danged comic. Anyway I guess “specie-ist” (specist?) would be more correct than “racist” but that is a mouthful and also sounds pretty stupid JUST SAYING.

Anyway, if you couldn’t figure it out, “monster” is a word used to designate the species that, for whatever reason, don’t have medallions, and usually they are not seen in a positive light, especially if you are A) an old grumpy grandpa with outdated opinions that will never change or B) Jon.

Okay so you get a half-finished background AGAIN, but I promise that next week you will have a 100% finished comic. THIS IS BECAUSE I spent all weekend accidentally working on next week’s comic because I somehow got it confused with this week’s comic. Don’t ask me how, because I have no idea. Anyway, I was able to get most of this page done in time, and next week’s will be done NO PROBLEM.

As for the comic, Jon and Lorne have that special ability to instantly aggravate each other over small little things as only siblings can do. Nemean Code is a big thing with Nemeans, and Jon has broken it a stupid amount of times. Little Mister Perfect Lorne has never acted out of line, however, and does not understand why it is so difficult that Jon can’t seem to hack it. OH BOY. Also: Jon’s medallion is fixed onto the back of his bolo tie, if you were wondering

Meanwhile: Jim is good at Borogrove.

So I played a game this week called “maybe I can get away without drawing backgrounds for this page” because hey, you guys know where this scene is taking place, right? I don’t have to keep drawing it, right? Turns out no, the place looks pretty bare without the background, so I had to scribble one in pretty quick. And THAT is the reason why the background is not colored yet! I’ll put up the finished version ASAP, promise guys!

Anyway, the comic! Paul makes fun of Jim! Exciting times! Don’t ask Jim what his sexual orientation is. He would probably react the same way if you labeled him with any specific term, regardless of what you’re calling him. He just don’t jive with your labels, yo. Fight the power.

Eleanor breathes fire when gas from glands in her nose mixes with gas from glands in her cheeks and combusts, so when she speaks the air in front of her will occasionally burst into flame, which is something you need to watch out for.

Rupert is very excited to have five queens.

Jim and Lorne show up to bug their brothers! Annoying your sibbling is a basic right, no matter what species you are. Before anyone asks, “Merry” is short for “Meriwether”, not “Meriadoc”, SORRY LotR FANS.

Anyway, if you haven’t noticed, Jon is not the most agreeable of people. Also, I’m not sure if I mentioned this before, but Jon and Lorne are Nemean Lions. The Nemean Code is a thing that keeps Nemeans from doing anything stupid. Having incredible strength and invulnerability tends to result in acting stupid. Thus the Code.

New characters! I bet if you think real hard you can figure out who their brothers are. It rhymes with “Gym” and “Horn”.

These two are actually really super old characters that I revamped like crazy before putting them in the comic. It’s neat seeing characters you developed such a long time ago finally make it into something like this. Also: don’t even ask about Jon’s moustache. It works because of magic and sheer force of will.

I won’t lie to you: I am a big fan of this page.
